married with children – casada e com filhos
That might be strange to Brazilians, but I’ll explain it. When you hear that someone is married with children, it means that he/she is married and has children. The verb marry accept different prepositions that change the meaning. Example: Demi Moore is married to Ashton Kutcher. They are husband and wife, that’s why we use the preposition ‘to’.
In English you:
marry someone – Demi Moore married Ashton Kutcher in 2005
get married to – Demi Moore got married to Ashton Kutcher in 2005
to be married to – Demi Moore is married to Ashton Kutcher
But you can say to be married with children. That means something different.
Julie is married with three children. (Julie é casada e tem três filhos)
It means Julie is married and has three children.
So, be careful when you use the preposition ‘to’ and ‘with’ with the verb ‘marry’.
