a mess – uma bagunça, uma zona
If your room is a mess, it’s not clean and organized. In Portuguese we use bagunça or zona.
This is room is a mess, Josh! When are you going to clean it? (Esse quarto tá uma bagunça/zona, Josh! Quando você vai limpá-lo?)
I’d like to call the attention to the use of zona to all the foreigners out there who read this blog. Zona can have different meanings. It can be an informal word for brothel. It’s a little offensive. Also, in Rio and São Paulo, it is used with the words north, south, west to indicate a region. Example: Copacabana is a neighborhood in the zona sul (south zone) of Rio.
