to black out – desmaiar
If you black out, you faint (desmaia).
The groom was so nervous in the ceremony that he blacked out in front of the priest. (O noivo estava tá nervoso que desmaiou em frente do padre)
Don’t translate in Portuguese as apagar. In Portuguese apagar means that you are very tired and fall asleep very fast.
Carlos estava tão cansado que apagou no sofá.
But you can also use the word desmaiar.
Carlos estava tão cansado que desmaiou no sofá.
Just remember that in Portuguese we don’t use apagar meaning desmaiar.
Apagar in Portuguese also means to kill somebody.
Is there an informal term used when someone falls asleep very fast because of tiredness?
